About

an extremely handsome man

GRW Photography

Hi, I'm Gareth, I live in Devon with my wife and three children. I have a cat, a tortoise and a few fish, who all move in equal measure. I spent more than a decade as a press photographer across the South West of England. I've been documenting the everyday of life as it unfolds, and now I do it within wedding photography, but my most proudest of achievements is not winning awards within the industry, but getting my GCSE in photography back at school in Wales! So yes, I have been pretty keen on taking pictures for a while now, still holding the same passion and enthusiasm to this day.

Style

This is quite simple, I let you crack on as much as you want all day without any interference. I capture moments as they unfold. My ultimate aim is for you to not even realise I’m there, but I'm also more than happy to shoot any group pictures you ask for, a confetti image, sparklers, a whole group photo straight after your ceremony is a given. I basically give you what you want but with the majority in a reportage journalistic style.

I’m a photojournalism enthusiast (some may say geek), telling stories with photos, and what better way than at weddings. My background is within the press industry, newspapers and glossy magazines, which I genuinely believe has helped me create a more edgy feel to my reportage style.

My 15 years as a press photographer have helped me interact with people and get the best out of situations. Newspaper and magazine editors have often told me that they can only fit one image on the page, so there has to be one picture that tells the whole story. Along with the added pressure of getting that picture in a very short space of time due to deadlines, thinking fast and intuitively. Having the best part of around 10 hours to capture your wedding day, I feel I can truly get absorbed and portray the best of it.

Looking back at my time in the press it now feels like I was training, learning, fine-tuning my style, in a way waiting for wedding photojournalism to happen. I continue to learn, everyday and at every wedding and the better picture is always out there.

"Gareth really put us both at ease, straight away, it was like having a mate at your wedding."

This isn’t a celebrity photoshoot, it’s about you. Forget about posing and feeling awkward in front of the camera. Imagine going on a walk with an old friend, who just happens to have a camera with them.

I've photographed destination weddings in other countries but being surrounded by beautiful scenery across the South West, makes being a wedding photographer in this part of the world a joy.

Candid photography is my style, capturing all those off the cuff moments that might escape your eyes during the busyness of the day. Don't worry, I still get those more formal shots during the service and family photos but I love to be there from the start, documenting the getting ready, the 'I do' and then onto the party, where the hair is well and truly let down!
